John Dady and Leona Wagner Dady lived on Woodchuck Hill Road at various times from 1919 to at least 1948, and were at Old Quarry Rd. in Lyndon by 1960.  Mr. Dady was born in Pompey, and was a farmer and the owner of a construction firm.  At one point, Mr. Dady lived in Syracuse and worked as a barber.  The new Moses DeWitt school in DeWitt was built in 1931, and the following year, Mr. Dady bought the old school building at 107 Jamesville Rd., known as the Orville Schoolhouse.  He converted it to an apartment house and barber shop, where Mr. and Mrs. Dady lived and where Mr. Dady plied his trade.  Later he retired and built the first house on Old Quarry Road.  The couple operated the Quarry Nursery at that site until Mrs. Dady's death on 10-23-1960.  Mr. Dady was one of the founders of the DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department, and later was the oldest member of the Department.  Mr. Dady was a founder of the Thomas Jeffferson Democratic Club, and the first member of the DeWitt Businessmen's  Association.  Mrs. Dady's mother, Sarah J. Wagner, who was born in 1861, lived with the family by 1920.  Mr. Dady died on 7-26-1983, at age 93.  Their children :  Robert C. Dady, who was born in Pompey on 12-27-1913, wed Anna Marie Dady, lived in Lyndon and DeWitt, and died on 9-19-2001, and Norene (or Norinne) Elinor Dady, who was born in 1918, and died in December, 1924.  On the 1930 census, Robert Dady, is shown as John Dady's, "foster son," thus their exact relationship is unclear.

William H. Daggett and Ida May Butler Daggett lived at at 309 Chapel St. by 1927, and at 303 South St. by 1942.  Mr. Daggett was born in May, 1871, and was a lifelong resident of Fayetteville.  He was a carpenter, an electrician, and also worked at odd jobs.  Mrs. Daggett was born in April, 1871, and the couple wed about 1892.  Mr. Daggett died on 9-8-1945, and Mrs. Daggett died on 1-29-1950.  They had:  Ruth Daggett, who was born in September, 1893, and died 6-7-1909, Carroll A. Daggett, who was born in January, 1897, fought in the battle of the Argonne during WWI, lived in Fayetteville, worked for the McIntyre Paper Co, and died in June, 1961, George Donald Daggett, who was born on 11-10-1899, wed Elizabeth "Lizzie" Reeves Daggett, was a laborer for the Precision Castings Co., and later woked as a custodian at the Jamesville-DeWitt high school, and died 7-24-1965, Clifford R. Daggett, who was born on 9-30-1902, and lived in Brewerton at his death in May, 1967, and Robert L. Daggett, who was born on 9-23-1906, lived in Cazenovia, and died in July, 1977.

DeWitt W. Danforth and Ruth Ward Danforth lived at 408 Spring St. by 1942, and at 511 Clinton St. by 1948.  Mr. Danforth was a foreman for the Precision Castings Co.  They had:  Robert C. Danforth, (see his listing below), Douglas Danforth, who worked for the Easy Washer Co., and Donald Danforth and William Danforth, who both served in the USMC during WWII.



Robert Charles Danforth lived at 408 Spring St. by 1942.  Mr. Danforth apprenticed at the Precision Castings Co. and became a tool and die maker He wed his neighbor, Helen Mae Cathers, on 11-25-1943. Mrs. Danforth was born about 1921, and grew up at 309 Spring St.  (See the listing for her father, Fred J. Cathers.)  Mrs. Danforth also worked at Precision.  The couple resided at 114 Franklin St. by 1948, and later lived in DeRuyter and Brasher Falls, NY.



Loren A. Darling and Harriet Jones Darling lived at 206 Thompson St. by 1942.  Mr. Darling was born in 1904, and the couple wed about 1926.  Mr. Darling operated a confectionary store, and a bowling alley in Fayetteville, before becoming an inspector for the Precision Casting Co.--joining them about 1935.  Mrs. Darling was born in Madison, NY, on 8-28-1903, and retired as office manager of the Precision Castings Co.  She was a long time bowler and became the president of the NY State Women's Bowling Association.  Later she was elected to their hall of fame.  Mr. Darling died 1-13-1956, and Mrs. Darling died in a Chittenango nursing home 12-11-2001, at age 98.

Mrs. Carrie Barnes Dawley lived on Salt Springs Rd.  She was born 10-5-1870, in Syracuse, and was the widow of Frank Elisha Dawley, whom she wed on 6-16-1891.  Mr. Dawley was born in Elbridge, NY, on 9-10-1863.  He was educated at the Munro Collegiate Institute, and worked as a police reporter for a Syracuse newspaper.  Mr. Dawley later became internationally known as an agriculturist and was particularly noted for his research into the scientific breeding of cattle, horses, sheep, and poultry.  He introduced Karakul sheep to America and they were bred on his Dotsholm farm--where the family lived. Mr. Dawley was also known for other innovations and won a gold medal at a farm exposition in San Francisco in 1915.  He died on 6-13-1936.  Mrs. Dawley was very active in the DAR, and other civic and social organizations.  She died on 10-23-1944.  They had:  Marian Dawley, who wed Morgan Lewis, (see their entry), Helen Dawley, who wed Benjamin Tracy, (see their entry), Laura Dawley, who wed Horace G. Mathews, (see their entry), and Miss Dorothy Jackson Dawley, who was born about 1913, graduated from Syracuse University in 1935, was a physical education teacher in Massena, NY, for 30 years, lived with her mother when not teaching, and died in Plattsburg, NY, on 4-22-1973, Catherine Louise Dawley, who was born on 6-20-1909, wed Harlow Holmes Walker, and lived in Mt. Vernon, OH, at her death on 10-13-1999, and Lamson E. Dawley, (see entry below).

Lamson Eldred Dawley, and Beatrice Gummer Dawley lived on Salt Springs Rd. by 1934.  Mr. Dawley was born 1-11-1911, and was a 1933 graduate of Syracuse University's College of Engineering.  He shared his father's interest in agriculture and the breeding of Karakul sheep, (see the entry above), and continued to operate the family's farming business.  Mr. Dawley served as the first chairman of the Town of Manlius planning board, and played a significant role in managing residential and commercial growth during his 40 years on the board.  Mrs. Dawley was born 7-22-1911, and graduated from Central City Business Institute (CCBI).  The couple wed about 1934.  Mr. Dawley died on 5-9-1994, and Mrs. Dawley died on 11-30-1995.  They had:  Caroline A. Dawley, who resides in Cazenovia, and Loren E. Dawley, who was born about 1942, wed Deborah Dawley, and lives in Fayetteville and Naples, FL.

Alan Day and Marion "Mary" Sebring Day lived at  213 N. Park St. by 1927.  Mr. Day was born 11-5-1903, and started as a finisher at the Stickley Furniture Co. and rose to be their superintendent.  By 1960, Mr. Day had become the assessor for the Town of Manlius.  Mrs. Day was born about 1903, and grew up on Spring St. (see the W. S. Sebring entry).  The couple wed about 1921, and Mrs. Day worked for a period as a stenographer for the Stickley firm.  Later she and Mr. Day owned and operated a local upholstery business.  She died on 11-13-1976, and Mr. Day later married his wife's sister-in-law, Anne Magensey Sebring, and died on 12-28-1984.  Mrs. Sebring-Day died on 6-1-1993.

Charles J. Delaney and Pauline P. Delaney lived at 411 Salt Springs St. by 1927.  Mr. Delaney was born about 1886, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and came to Fayetteville about 1922.  He worked as a die maker and inspector at the Precision Castings Co., and died on 6-14-1955.  Mrs. Delaney was born in Ilion, NY, about 1888, and the couple wed about 1905.  She died on 9-13-1956.  They had:  C. Donald Delaney, who was born about 1913, and lived in Plainfield, NJ.

Charles L. Dickerson and Julia Keohane Dickerson lived at 117 Chapel St. by 1927.  Mr. Dickerson was born in February, 1862.  He worked as a wood turner at the Stickley Furniture Co., and died on 2-17-1943, at age 81.  Mrs. Dickerson was born in April, 1865, and the couple wed about 1890.  She died on 12-23-1954, at age 89.  They had:  Leslie Dickerson, who was born in March, 1891, graduated from Syracuse University, wed Gordon C. Begent, and lived in Ithaca, NY, where she died on 5-6-1947, and Marjorie K. Dickerson, who was born on 2-5-1893, graduated from Syracuse University, was an English teacher, lived at the family home, but died visiting friends in Hammondsport, NY, on 8-5-1977.

John Joseph Dillon and Elizabeth Catherine Kerner Dillon lived at 303 E. Genesee St. by 1930.  Mr. Dillon was born in PA about 1880, and moved his family to NY about 1909.  From 1925 to 1949, Mr. Dillon was the owner and publisher of the Fayetteville Eagle Bulletin newspaper, and later worked as a linotype operator for The Syracuse Post-Standard.  Mrs. Dillon was born about 1881, in Erie, PA, and the couple wed about 1905.  She was living at 100 Heffenden St. in Syracuse at her death on 3-17-1953.  Mr. Dillon later lived in Syracuse with his son Harold's family, but was residing at Loretto Rest in Syracuse at his death on 5-5-1967, after his clothing caught fire while he was lighting a cigar.  They had:  Harold T. Dillon, who was born in Erie, PA, about 1906, wed Ruby Harbin, worked as a printer for The Post-Standard, and lived at 137 Hertford St., in Syracuse at his death on 4-5-1975,  John J. Dillon, Jr., who was born about 1916, wed Mary Lucille Honors, achieved the rank of Lt. Col. in the USAF, was the publisher of the Bulletin, worked for the Federal Electric Corp., and lived in CA, William E. Dillon, who was born about 1920, lived in Sacramento, CA, Irene Catherine Dillon, who was born about 1915, wed Charles Carlton, taught school in Syracuse and Sullivan, NY, later lived in North Syracuse, and died on 4-5-1996, Sister Mary Kathleen Dillon, who was born Geraldine N. Dillon in Buffalo in 1909, was a nurse, became a member of the Sisters of St. Francis on 8-31-1949, and died at the age of 95 on 12-21-2004, in the Wilson Convent, at 1024 Court St., in Syracuse, Elizabeth Dillon, who was born about 1925, wed William B. Cornelius, and lived in Huntington Beach, CA, and Thomas E. Dillon, who was born about 1918, wed Janette Dillon, lived at 312 E. Genesee St. by 1942, worked for the Precision Castings Co., and later lived in Marcellus, NY.

Eli J. Dorn lived on N. Manlius St. by 1942.  Mr. Dorn was born in March,1870, and had been a farmer in Wisconsin and while living in Pompey, NY.  He was married about 1901 to Edith Kinne Dorn, who died on 5-16-1917, at age 44.  Mr. Dorn died on 8-28-1944.  They had:  Pearl M. Dorn, who was born on 1-21-1903, was a teacher in Fulton County, NY, a radio tester for General Electric, and lived in Clay, NY, at her death on 2-10-1985, and Marvin C. Dorn, who was born on 11-13-1904, wed Mary Dorn, worked as a laborer for the Electrical Workers Union, lived in Clay, and died on 9-27-1975.

Shada Forbes Doxsee lived at 127 W. Genesee St. by 1942, having lived earlier at 125 Buckingham Ave. in Syracuse.  Mrs. Doxsee was the widow of J. Blaine Doxsee, who died on 7-17-1937.  Mr. Doxsee was the dean of newspaper advertising salesmen in CNY, having spent 25 years with the Syracuse Journal.  He was born about 1889, and was a native of Syracuse.  Mr. Doxsee was known as an expert angler, and was a longtime member of local fishing groups.  About 1931, Mr. Doxsee, was at his summer home on Lake Ontario when he used a rowboat to rescue two boys whose sailboat turned over at the height of a major storm.  Mrs. Doxsee worked as a floor secretary at University Hospital, and as an inspector for General Electric.  She was a native of Oswego, NY, and lived in Fayetteville from 1931 until moving to East Syracuse just three weeks before her death on 11-3-1957.  They had:  June B. Doxsee, who was born about 1919, was a nurse at Crouse-Irving Hospital, wed Robert T. Gray on 3-17-1951, and resided in Manlius at her death on 9-15-1975, Doris Jane Doxsee, who was born in 1918, wed Howard Barlow, and lives in Fort Covington, NY, and Lois C. Doxsee, who was born on 11-30-1921, wed Earl Courtwright on 1-3-1942, lived in Manlius, and died 7-2-2007.

James Irving Doxtator and Mary Ellen McDermott Doxtator lived at 235 Salt Springs St. by 1927.  Mr. Doxtator was born on 2-20-1880, and came to Fayetteville when he was seven years old.  He was a conductor for many years on the Syracuse and Suburban trolley line, and later was a die caster for the Precision Castings Co.  Mr. Doxtator died 12-24-1942.  Mrs. Doxtator was born 6-8-1880, and worked as a house mother for nursing students.  She was residing in Manlius, but visiting in Manchester, GA, at her death on 6-17-1967.  They had:  John H. Doxtator, (see the entry below), Paul Doxtator, who was born on 7-20-1910, lived in Manlius, and died on 3-4-1993, Catherine Doxtator, who was born about 1906, wed Herbert W. Haag, moved to Syracuse about 1929, and was living at 212 Dorchester Ave. at her death on 1-4-1965, and Geraldine M. Doxtator, who was born on 11-20-1921, served in the WACS during WWII, was a stenographer, wed David Alvin Child in 1946, and resided in Manchester, at her death 10-11-1999.

John H. Doxtator and Cora Patten Doxtator lived at 110 N. Burdick St. by 1942, and on East Genesee Turnpike by 1948.  He was born on 1-22-1908, and grew up at 235 Salt Spring St.  Mr. Doxtator worked for the Syracuse Lighting Co., and later was a self-employed contractor.  He lived in Mattydale at his death on 12-25-1982.  Mrs. Doxtator was born on 5-29-1906, and died on 5-6-1976.  They had:  John P. Doxtator, who was born on 1-22-1932, lived in West Monroe, NY, and died on 10-21-1998, Mary Doxtator, who resided in Mattydale, and Robert J. Doxtator, who was born 5-29-1935, married Sue Doxtator, and died in Bradenton, FL. on 7-28-2002.

Robert S. Dunlop and Jennie Worden Dunlop lived at 203 E. Genesee St. by 1927.  Mr. Dunlop was born about 1855, and was a life resident of Fayetteville, where he died on 3-9-1941.  He was a receiving clerk and worked for the Crouse-Hinds Co. for 40 years.  Mrs. Dunlop was born about 1864 at High Bridge--a hamlet between Manlius and Lyndon--and the couple wed about 1890.  She died on 4-17-1945.  They had:  Doris Dunlop, who was born about 1905, wed Herbert C. Cornett, taught home economics at East Syracuse-Minoa high school for 15 years, and lived in Fayetteville at her death on 8-12-1970.

Herbert A. Dunn and Georgia Bresee Dunn lived on Woodchuck Hill Rd. by 1942, having lived before on Robineau Rd. in Syracuse.  Mr. Dunn was born in Fabius, NY, on 8-21-1893, and served in Europe during WWI.  Mr. Dunn and his father-in-law, Stephen Bresee, founded Bresee Chevrolet in 1922.  He became  the owner of both that firm and Salina Chevrolet in Syracuse.  Mr. Dunn had a life long interest in horses and operated the Dunwoodie Farm--for show and standardbred horses--on his Woodchuck Hill property.  The couple lived at 996 James St. in Syracuse by the late 1940's, and retired to FL in 1978. Mrs. Dunn died in Fort Lauderdale on 4-17-1978, and Mr. Dunn died there on 1-6-1989, at age 95.  They had:  Jane Dunn, who was born 5-3-1920, wed Frederick W. Schermerhorn, and lived at 412 Spring St., (see their entry), William B. Dunn, who was born about 1922, served as a pilot in WWII, married Anne Harwood, lived in Fayetteville, assumed the management of the family car dealerships in 1958, was an avid sailor, skier and aviator, and died on 8-20-2006, and Patricia Joy "Patsy" Dunn, who was born about 1927, graduated from Endicott Junior College, married Edmond Clark Bowen in 1950, and resided in Woodbury, CT.   Mr. Dunn and both of his daughters were accomplished equestrians, and were very active in local and national show circles.

George H. Durham and Linda Dings Durham lived at 105 John St. by 1930.  Mr. Durham was born 9-29-1896, in MN, and was a die maker for the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Durham was born in Syracuse about 1892.  She married first about 1907, and wed Mr. Durham about 1928.  Mr. Durham's mother, Evelyn Burgess Durham, a cateress, lived with the family, as did Mrs. Durham's parents, Albert Dings and Stella Dings.  Evelyn Durham was born about 1874, and died on 8-8-1944.  Mr. Dings died 4-6-1933, and Mrs. Dings is believed to have died in May, 1932, at age 69.  Linda Durham died on 12-5-1968.  Mr. Durham probably died in AZ in March, 1984.  Linda Durham had:  Lillian Guendel, who lived in St. Petersburg, FL.  (See the Guendel listing.)

Edgar L. Dygert and Florence Goodfellow Dygert lived at 100 Fitch St. by 1927, having lived earlier on Mill St.  Mr. Dygert was born in October, 1871.  He worked as a young man as a cigarmaker, and later became a carpenter.  He died on 3-22-1946.  Mrs. Dygert was born about 1875, and the couple wed about 1907.

Edwin Ellinge Eastman and Lillian Beach Eastman lived at 500 Clinton St. by 1942.  Mr. Eastman was born on 11-11-1876.  He served 20 years as the mayor of Fayetteville and president of the village board under an earlier form of village government.  He also served as fire chief.  Mr. Eastman worked over 60 years for McArthur, Wirth and Cooney, an air conditioning and refrigeration firm.  About 1903, Mr. Eastman wed Mary A. Griffin, who worked as a glove maker.  She was born about 1874, and died on 10-23-1924, at their home at 200 W. Genesee St.  Mr. Eastman wed Lillian M. Beach about 1926.  She was born about 1891, and died on 5-23-1950.  Mayor Eastman died on 11-10-1958.

Chester Ryland Eaton and Alice Burnett Eaton lived at 130 E. Genesee St. by 1942, and at 103 Brooklea Dr. by 1948.  Mr. Eaton was born in Chittenango on 12-24-1885.  He was a funeral director for about 40 years, and operated his own funeral home, C. R. Eaton, in Fayetteville.  It was located on Brooklea Dr. before re-locating to East Genesee St.   Mr. Eaton died on 1-19-1951.  Mrs. Eaton, who was a native of Chittenango, was born about 1886, and came to Fayetteville following the couple's wedding about 1910.  She died on 4-9-1952.  Their daughter, Grace E. Eaton, was born on 9-8-1915, attended National Park Seminary, married Selden D. Tubbs about 1939, and resided at 104 Fairfield St. at her death on 10-10-1992.  After his marriage, Mr. Tubbs joined his father-in-law as a partner in the Eaton-Tubbs funeral home. 

Laura A. Eaton lived at 300 E. Genesee St. by 1927.  Miss Eaton was one of the four children of Robert Wilson Eaton, a bookkeeper, and Emily Young Eaton, who both died in 1925.  Miss Eaton was born in October, 1869, and was a life resident of Fayetteville.  She died on 12-30-1958, at age 89.

George E. Ebeling and Martha Simons Ebeling lived at 500 Walnut St. by 1927, and later at 104 N. Park St.  Mr. Ebeling was born in November, 1857.  He was married about 1883 to Anna Ebeling, who was born in August, 1864, and died on 3-28-1903.  Mr. Ebeling wed Martha Smons about 1905.  He was a butcher before becoming the police chief of Fayetteville and the tax assessor for the Town of Manlius.  Mrs. Martha Ebeling was born on a farm on Fly Rd. in East Syracuse, and came to Fayetteville about 1905.  She was a teacher and later served on the school board.  Mrs. Ebeling also was founder and first president of the Women's Republican Club of the Town of Manllus.  Mr. Ebeling died on 8-23-1944, and Martha Ebeling died on 10-2-1967.  George and Martha Ebeling had:  Martha C. Ebeling, who was born about 1910, and married Theodore Roosevelt, (see their entry), George H. Ebeling, (see the next entry), and Etta Marie Ebeling, who was born about 1919, was a clerk at the First Trust & Deposit Co, in Syracuse, married James F. McDermott, and later, Irving S. Hayes, and lives in Fayetteville.

George H. Ebeling and Beatrice Moynihan Ebeling lived at 502 Walnut St. by 1942.  Mr. Ebeling was born about 1911.   He served with the USN in the South Pacific during World War II, and worked 22 years as an agent for the Metropolitan Insurance Co.  Mr. Ebeling was a member of the Manlius Town Board.  He was a member of the fire department for about 40 years, and was the chief for 21 years.  Mr. Ebeling was greatly interested in local history and often wrote and spoke on historical topics.  He died on 9-24-1971, and a collection of his historical materials was donated to the local library in 1999.  Mrs. Ebeling was born on 2-7-1908, and died 5-25-1977.  They had four daughters:  Joyce Emily Ebeling, who was born in March, 1930, wed Robert Theodore Yager on 6-26-1948, and resided in Parish, NY, Ethel Ebeling Cook, also of Parish, Henrietta Leora Ebeling, who wed David Crandall on 6-22-1964, and lived in Narragansett, RI, and Marjorie Ann Ebeling, who wed Charles H. Watson in 1971, graduated from the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music, and resided in Grand Rapids, MI. 

Merrill Randall Eddy and Grace Townsend Eddy lived on Hunt Dr. by 1942, having moved there about 1934, after living earlier in Erie County, NY.  Mr. Eddy was born on 9-8-1901, and grew up in Wyoming County, NY.  He operated a hardware store in Fayetteville before becoming an institutional sales rep for the General Foods Co.  The couple wed about 1920.   Mr. Eddy died on 12-8-1944.  They had two daughters:  Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Eddy, who was born 1-22-1922, and married Donald J. Cathers, (see their entry), and Doris Eleanor Eddy Mosier, who was probably born 4-7-1926, and lived in Grants Pass, OR, at her death in June, 1984.

Birger Erik Edlund and Pearl McCall Edlund lived at 510 Orchard St. by 1942.  Mr. Edlund was born in Hagfors, Sweden, on 5-21-1897, and worked as the night superintendent at the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Edlund was born on 12-11-1901, and the couple wed about 1920.  About 1943, Mr. Edlund was transferred to the company's Cleveland facility, where he became the die shop foreman.  Mr. Edlund died on 10-2-1952, and Mrs. Edlund died on 8-6-1979, while they were residing in Lakewood, OH.  They had:  Paul Edlund, who was born about 1922, Stuart E. Edlund, who was born on 10-10-1928, and died on 1-15-1975, while residing in OH, and Justina (possibly Justeen) Edlund, who was born about 1923, and wed Gordon Myer.  Mr. Edlund's brother, Carl Edlund, also lived in Fayetteville, (see the entry below).

Carl Arvid Edlund and Margaret Nye Edlund lived at 206 Thompson St. by 1927, and at 305 S. Manlius St. by 1942.  Mr. Edlund was born in Sweden on 8-7-1890, and came to America in 1910, and to Fayetteville about 1922.  He had lived for a period in Cortland earlier where he was a machinist.  In Fayetteville, Mr. Edlund was a die engineer for the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Edlund was born about 1900, and the couple wed about 1920.  She was a genealogist and had an active interest in history.  Mr. Edlund had moved to Canastota, NY, about a year before his death on 1-15-1955, while ice fishing.  They had:  Betty E. Edlund, who was born about 1920, graduated from Cortland Normal School (now SUNY at Cortland) in 1939, taught in Cazenovia, married Frank Ferris Dunham, Jr., on 12-21-1940, and lived in Buffalo, and Bruce A. Edlund, who was born about 1924, served in the AAF during WWII, wed Christine Edlund, was an apprentice at Precision Castings, and lived at 756 South Ave. in Syracuse at his death on 3-31-1954.

Lena Belle Hildebrand Elliott lived on High Bridge Rd. by 1942.  Mrs. Elliott was the widow of William J. Elliott, Jr., who was born about 1889, and died on 8-29-1938.  The couple wed on 3-4-1916, in MI, and Mr. Elliott worked as a contractor.  Following his death, Mrs. Elliott was a housemaid.  She was born in Lapeer, MI, on 3-4-1894, and died 1-29-1965, while residing in Fayetteville.

Ellis and Seraph Rowe Ellis lived at 200 Warren St. by 1942.  Mr. Ellis was born about 1898, and served in WWI.  He was a painter for the Precision Castings Co., and a truck driver for the Easy Washer Co.  Mrs. Ellis was born on 6-29-1895.  She was married previously to a Mr. Merritt, by whom she had two sons:  Charles R. Merritt, who lived in Clearwater, FL, and Estus W. Merritt, who resided in Sherrill, NY.  Mr. Ellis died on 5-24-1950, and Mrs. Ellis died on 5-25-1988, at age 92.

Francis Edgar Ellis and his daughter, Leota Ellis Bex, lived at 606 Orchard St. by 1942.  Mr. Ellis was a widower, his wife, Anna Bryant Ellis, having died on 2-22-1941.  Mrs. Ellis was born about 1869, and the couple wed about 1893.  Mr. Ellis died on 1-26-1960, at age 92.  They had:  Leota Ellis Bex, (see her entry above), Margaret Ellis, who was born about 1900, wed Kenneth Morgan in 1922, and Ira B. Ellis, who served as a village trustee.  All of the children lived in Fayetteville.

John Evans Estabrook and Janet Sartorius Estabrook lived on West Genesee Turnpike by 1942, at 8 Lynacres Blvd. in Lyndon by 1953, and later moved to Highbridge Rd.  Mr. Estabrook was born on 1-10-1910, in Syracuse, and was a 1932 graduate of Cornell University.  He was a news reporter and circulation director of The Post-Standard newspaper in Syracuse, before becoming a Marine Corps officer during WWII.  He served on Guam and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel.  In 1951, Mr. Estabrook founded the Estabrook Printing Co., Inc.  Mrs. Estabrook was a native of NYC, and a graduate of Bennett College.  She came to CNY about 1934, and was active in the Ground Observers Corps during WWII.  Mrs. Estabrook died on 6-12-1969.  Mr. Estabrook retired in 1971, and moved to Texas.  He died in Tyler, on 12-8-1985.  At some point, Mr. Estabrook wed Louise Orr Estabrook, who survived him.  John and Janet Estabrook had:  J. Evans "Jack" Estabrook, Jr., who graduated from Colgate University in 1959, married Helen Alice Holl on 12-17-1960, and lived in Syracuse, Ann Estabrook Murray, who wed Martin S. Murray, and lived in Oswego, and Joan Estabrook White, who lived in East Granby, CT.   

Frank M. Farrell and Jane Lewis Farrell lived on E. Genesee Turnpike by 1942, and lived on Highbridge Rd. just east of the Lyndon Trailer Park, by 1953.  Mr. Farrell was a native of Canada, and came to the Fayetteville area in the mid 1930's.  He was the riding master at the Green Lakes Riding Stables and was a printer, operating a shop from their home for 25 years.  Mrs. Farrell was born about 1915.  She was a physical education teacher in Fabius for 30 years, and also gave riding lessons at their Hillside Riding Stables, adjacent to their home in Lyndon.  Mr. Farrell died 1-11-1960.  Mrs. Farrell later married Orville F. Wilkins, and they were living in Webster, NY, at her death on 11-23-1978.  Mr. and Mrs. Farrell had a son, S. Mark Farrell, who was born about 1938, and lives in Cazenovia.

Mildred Elenara Faust lived at 409 Clinton St. by 1942, having boarded earlier at 848 Lancaster Ave. in Syracuse.  Miss Faust was a native of Emporia, KS, and was born 10-21-1899.  She earned a bachelor's degree at Penn College of Iowa, and her master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Chicago. Dr. Faust briefly taught high school and junior college in Iowa and Missouri.  She then taught botany at Syracuse University from 1926 until her retirement in 1965.  In 1970 she became an adjunct professor of botany at SUNY's College of Environmental Science and Forestry.  This school holds the Mildred E. Faust Herbarium, the scientist's lifelong collection of plant specimens.  Dr Faust's field work took her to Europe, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, and to 48 states.  In 1985, in recognition of her numerous contributions to science and education in botany, the Centers for Nature Education and the Save the County organization created the Mildred E. Faust Wildflower Garden at the Baltimore Woods Historic Center in Marcellus.  She helped to organize and establish this center as well as the Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville.  Dr. Faust remained very active in conservation and nature causes until her death on 11-12-1988.

Margaret M. Fenner lived at 410 Spring St. by 1920, and at 245 Salt Spring St. by 1927.  The family had lived earlier in Syracuse.  Mrs. Fenner was the widow of Edward John Fenner.  Mr. Fenner was born on 9-5-1874, and worked as a toolmaker for the Precision Castings Co.  He died on 4-17-1928.  Mrs. Fenner was born about 1874, and the couple wed about 1900.  Mrs. Fenner died on 2-27-1959.  Their children: Dorothea Fenner, who was born about 1906, wed Clifford D. Christenson, resided at 114 W. Franklin St., and died on 6-28-1978, and Mary Alice Fenner, who was born about 1907, wed Arthur Lambert in July, 1927, and lived in Fayetteville.

Otto E. Feyerabend and Barbara Deichelman Feyerabend lived on High Bridge Rd. by 1900, having lived earlier in Missouri.  Mr. Feyerabend was born in Germany about 1863, and died on 2-4-1940.  Mrs. Feyerabend was born in MO, in November, 1874, and the couple wed about 1895.  She died on 7-10-1942.  They had:  Otto Emil Ferdinand Feyerabend, who was born on 9-4-1898, in St. Louis, came to CNY as a baby, wed Ethel Geiger about 1925, was a salesman for the Case Supply Co., and resided at 753 James St. in Syracuse at his death on 1-20-1986, Dorothy Feyerabend Wright, who was born on 8-24-1915, was a secretary for the Syracuse Electric Co., lived in Fayetteville, and died on 7-13-1993, and Fred F. Feyerabend, who was born about 1904, was a truck driver for the Springer Express Co. and the Red Star Express Co., and died on 9-22-1983.

Henry Childs Flower and Delia Cooney Flower,lived at 114 Franklin St. by 1927.  He was born on 4-12-1881, and was a poultryman and farmer.  Mr. Flower was also a professional musician and played the saxophone in orchestras in Syracuse movie theaters.  He was the organizer of a village band which conducted Saturday night concerts.  Mrs. Flower, was born about 1880, and they wed about 1904.  She died on 6-7-1941.  Mr. Flower died on 12-7-1947.  They had:  May Belle Flower, who was born in 1919, worked as a cost accountant for Empire Structural Steel Fabricators, Inc., lived most of her life in Fayetteville, but had lived a few years in Fulton, NY, at her death in May, 1971.

Charles Roger Folsom and Clara May Abbott Folsom lived at 207 N. Manlius St. by 1927, having lived earlier on Allen St. in Syracuse.  Mr. Folsom was born in Burnet Junction, WI, about 1867.  The couple wed about 1900 and came to Fayetteville about 1919.  Mr. Folsom retired in 1940 as a special agent for the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Co.  He died on 12-11-1956.  Mrs. Folsom was born in WI, about 1867, and was the second woman to graduate in the pharmacy program at the University of Wisconsin.  She was an organizer and official of the local DAR, and an active genealogist.  Mrs. Folsom marked the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers and was involved in the erection of Village historical markers. She also was an organizer of the local PTA.  Mrs. Folsom died 8-7-1947.  Their children:  Abbott Folsom, who was born on 6-25-1902, married Dorothy Marcy Matten on 5-2-1923, and resided in Tunkhannock, PA, at his death in December, 1977, Roger W. Folsom, who was born 3-21-1907, and lived in Maine at his death in October, 1985, and Elizabeth Folsom, who was probably born 11-23-1910, was the personnel manager for CCBI (the Central City Business Institute), wed James M. Dunlap, and is thought to have died on 2-23-1999.

Samuel R. Fowler and Helen Ramsey Fowler lived on High Bridge Rd. by 1942, and later lived at 405 Clinton St.  Dr. Fowler was born about 1875, and was a native of Canastota, NY.  He graduated from Colgate Academy and Columbia University's medical school.  He was a physician with offices in Syracuse for more than 40 years.  Mrs. Fowler was born about 1880, in PA, and the couple wed about 1905 .  Dr. Fowler died on 4-24-1956.  They had:  Anne Ramsey Fowler, who was born about 1905, and wed Russell R. Jarvis. (See their entry.)

Anson Monroe Fulmer and Addie Townsend Fulmer lived at 205 Warren St. by 1927.  Mr. Fulmer was born on 11-8-1878.  He was an inspector for the Precision Castings Co., and later was a paper hanger and decorator.  Mrs. Fulmer was born about 1880, and the couple wed about 1902.  In June, 1938, Mrs. Fulmer had the distinction of being the first female juror in the Town of Manlius to serve in a Justice of the Peace court.  She and Mr. Fulmer were both empanelled to try a charge of reckless driving.   Mr. Fulmer died on 6-8-1949.  Mrs. Fulmer died on 12-16-1951.   They had:  Retha A. Fulmer who was born about 1903, wed Howard B. Richer, worked for the General Electric Co., and lived at 23 Tyler Ct. in Manlius at her death on 8-24-1982, and Margaret J. Fulmer, who wed Milton Havens, and lived in Fayetteville.  (See their listing.)

John Ward Gaugel and Viola Margaret Sebring Gaugel lived at 413 Spring St. by 1942.  Mr. Gaugel was born about 1897.  He was a finisher for the Stickley Furniture Co.  Mrs. Gaugel was born on 1-17-1911, and grew up on Spring St., (see the Willard S. Sebring entry below).  She was a clerk in a shoe store, and worked several years at the Precision Castings Co.  Mr. Gaugel died on 2-19-1951, and Mrs. Gaugel subsequently wed Paul P. Bullion.  They were residing at 8601 Salt Springs Road in Manlius, at her death on 12-9-1994.

Michael J. Gleason and Sadie Meagher Gleason lived on N. Manlius St. by 1920, and later lived at 215 S. Manlius St.  Mr. Gleason was born about 1887, and was the telegrapher and station agent for the Chenango branch of the NYC railroad.  Mrs. Gleason, a native of Cazenovia, was born on 1-6-1888, and the couple married about 1913. She was a graduate of Syracuse's Central City Business Institute, and retired in 1954 as agent and station master in the Fayetteville office of the NYC Railroad.  Mr.  Gleason died on 5-30-1954, and Mrs. Gleason died on 12-1-1987, at the age of 99.

Albert Frederick Goodmore and Edna Bushnell Goodmore lived at 209 Orchard St. by 1927, and later lived at 210 Walnut St.  Mr. Goodmore was born in 1888, and was a native of Brooklyn.  He came to Fayetteville about 1907, and worked as an inspector at the Precision Castings Co. The couple married about 1911.  Mr. Goodmore died on 4-3-1953.  Mrs. Goodmore was born in 1890, and died on 8-17-1966, in Troy, NY.  They had:  Irene Edna Goodmore, who was born about 1912, married Raeburn J. Myers, and lived in Troy.

Jacob Edward Gramlich and Isabel Augusta "Belle" Kowald Gramlich lived at 500 Highbridge St. by 1920, having lived earlier on Maryland Ave. in Syracuse.  Mr. Gramlich was born about 1878, and graduated from Syracuse University.  He was a mechanical engineer for the Asphalt Products Corp. in Syracuse, and retired from the U. S. Hoffman Co. in 1953.  Mrs. Gramlich was a native of Buffalo, and graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College.  In 1940, the couple donated five acres of land near their home for a bird sanctuary in memory of their son, Frederick.  Mr. Gramlich died on 8-27-1959.  Mrs. Gramlich had lived in St. Albans, VT, with her daughter's family for about three years at her death, at age 90, on 11-10-1970.  They had:  Harriet "Happy" Gramlich, who was born on 9-4-1906, graduated from Syracuse University in 1928 with a degree in fine arts, married George Charles Dworshak on 11-16-1929, worked as a photo journalist, retired to Sun City, AZ, in 1982, and died on 5-3-2004, at age 97, Frederick Gramlich, who was born about 1911, graduated from the US Naval Academy, died on 6-3-1933, while serving in the USN, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, and Jacob Edward "Red" Gramlich, Jr., who was born about 1913, graduated from Syracuse University where he was captain of the crew squad, wed Harriet W. Gramlich about 1937, was an engineer for the Eastman Kodak Co., and the US AID director in Khartoum, Sudan, for 2 years, was very active in many charitable causes, and lived in Pittsford, NY, at his death on 11-17-2007, at age 94.

Allen B. Gray and Harriett Mary "May" Pratt Gray lived at 220 Highbridge St. by 1927.  Mr. Gray was born on 7-14-1884.  He worked for Precision Castings Co. for more than 25 years, and later was with the Central NY Power Co.--a predecessor of the Niagara Mohawk Power Co.  Mr. Gray died on 6-10-1957.  Mrs. Gray was born about 1886, and the couple wed about 1906.  She died 1-17-1955.  They had:  Donald F. Gray, and Merle Gray, (see their entries below).

Donald F. Gray and Jane Raynor Gray lived at 336 Highbridge St. by 1942.  Mr. Gray was born about 1915, and for 20 years was the proprietor of the Shell service station on W. Genesee St. in Fayetteville. Mr. Gray was an officer in the village fire department, and was elected to the village board of trustees when he was about 30, and served until his death on 12-15-1960, at age 45.  Mrs. Gray taught school in East Syracuse.  They had:  Kenneth Gray.

Merle Pratt Gray and Ida Vader Gray lived at 122 E. Genesee St. by 1942.  Mr. Gray was born about 1908, and was a native of Arcade, NY.  He graduated from Syracuse University, and was a salesman for the B. H. Spinney Co. and later was with the Westinghouse Corp.  Mrs. Gray was born on 9-11-1909, in Phoenix, NY, and the couple wed about 1927.  She worked during and after World War II for Precision Castings Co. as an inspector.  The family was living in Fairmount when Mr. Gray died on 5-3-1950.  Mrs. Gray then wed Arnold Dammers, from Solingen, Germany.  They moved from CNY to Port Charlotte, FL, in 1987, and were married 48 years years before his death about 2000.  In 2002, Mrs. Gray-Dammers moved to Hollywood, FL, where she resided at her death on 9-21-2005, at age 96.  Mr. and Mrs. Gray had:  Merle P. Gray, III, who lives in Cape Coral, FL, and Beth Ellen Gray Gentgen, who lives in Tamaqua, PA.

Theodore Albert Guendel and Lillian Norris Guendel lived at 215 Salt Springs St. by 1942, having lived earlier with Mrs. Guendel's family at 105 John St.  Mr. Guendel was born in Oswego, NY, on 2-16-1897, and was a die maker for the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Guendel, was born on 12-17-1906.  The couple later moved to St. Petersburg, FL, and lived there when Mr. Guendel died in September, 1964, and Mrs. Guendel died on 8-21-1996.

R. Brodie Hammond and Rosamond "Betty" Walters Hammond lived at 417 Brooklea Dr. by 1942.  Mr. Brodie was a native of Chicago, and was born about 1908.  He came to Fayetteville about 1940 and was an executive for the B. & S. Transportation Co., the Inland Express Co., and the Western Express Co.  Mrs. Hammond was born about 1915, and graduated from the Powelson Business Institute.  She was a secretary at the Carrier Corp.  Mr. Hammond died on  9-23-1957.  Mrs. Hammond later wed R. Thomas Nixon, and died on 3-23-1976.  Mr. and Mrs. Hammond had:  R. Barry Hammond, who graduated from Carnegie College and Metropolitan State College, wed Kim E. Linderman on 5-30-1981, and lived in Denver, and Robert Brian Hammond, who attended Union College.

James H. Hanchett and Gertrude Aby Hanchett lived at 414 Brooklea Dr. by 1942, having lived earlier in Minneapolis, and at 2712 E. Fayette St. in Syracuse.  Mr. Hanchett was born 9-29-1890, in Sioux City, IA, and worked as a sales rep for the Trane Co.  Mrs. Hanchett was born in IA on 7-24-1891, and the couple wed about 1919.  Mrs. Hanchett's mother, Alice C. Aby, lived with the couple.  Mrs. Aby was born in IL in May, 1863, and was the widow of William S. Aby, whom she wed about 1882.  Mr. and Mrs. Aby lived on farms in KS, IA, OR, and CA, and had at least nine children.  Mrs. Aby died in Ithaca, NY, on 1-12-1949.  The couple divorced about 1948, and Mr. Hanchett married Carolyn R. Hanchett.  They were living at 113 Fordham Rd. in Syracuse at his death on 10-19-1970.  Mrs. Hanchett died in Holyoke, MA, in December, 1984.  James and Gertrude Hanchett had two daughters:  Virginia Hanchett, who was born in Minneapolis on 7-4-1920, wed Forrest Bumford, lived in Epsom, NH, and Barbara Churchill Hanchett, who was born in MN on 2-11-1927, graduated from the Eastman School of Music, married John Harrison Conant, Jr., on 4-8-1950, was a music teacher and church music director, received a doctorate in music from the University of Massachusetts in 1988, and died on 3-18-2002.

George Hand and Edna Scammell Hand lived at 113 N. Mill St. by 1927, and at 424 N. Manlius St. by 1942.  Mr. Hand was born on 7-25-1893, and was a native of DeWitt.  He came to Fayetteville about 1915 and worked for the Precision Castings Co.  Mr. Hand was the night foreman, and had been with the company for 46 years, at his death on 10-10-1956.  Mrs. Hand was born about 1898, and was a native of Crescent, IL.  She came to Fayetteville about 1912, and the couple wed about 1915.  Mrs. Hand died on 1-5-1966.  They had:  Virginia Hand, who was born about 1916, married Ernest Clark, and lived in Fayetteville, Gloria Joan Hand, who was born about 1919, wed Robert A. Webb, and lived in Central Square, NY, and James Hand, who lived in Tully, NY.

Peter H. Hansen and Ruth Ann Williams Hansen lived at 405 Elm St. by 1927.  Mr. Hansen was born in Germany about 1880.  He was a design superintendent at the Stickley Furniture Co.  Mr. Hansen died on 3-23-1947.  Mrs. Hansen was born about 1876, and the couple wed about 1907.  She died in Ann Arbor, MI, on 10-25-1956.  They had:  William H. Hansen, who was born 10-22-1914, lived in Ann Arbor, and died on 12-13-1988.

Frank W. Harris and Bessie Washburn Harris lived at 207 W. Genesee St. by 1910.  Mr. Harris was born in Chittenango about 1871, and came to Fayetteville in 1900.  He worked for the Continental Can Co. and was a member of the Fayetteville volunteer fire department.  Mr. Harris died on 7-10-1943.  Mrs. Harris was born about 1879, and was a lifelong resident of Fayetteville.  She died there on 2-9-1953.

Milton E. Havens and Margaret Fulmer Havens lived on W. Genesee Turnpike by 1942, and at 306 Highbridge St. by 1948.  Mr. Havens was born on 12-14-1911.  He was a native of Throop, NY, and came to Fayetteville about 1921.  Mr. Havens worked for the Atlantic gas station in DeWitt, was an inspector for the Easy Washer Co., and later was the head custodian at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.  He was a noted square dance caller for many years.  Mrs. Havens was born 11-20-1908, and lived her entire life in Fayetteville.  She was the daughter of Anson and Addie Fulmer who also lived in Fayetteville, (see their listing).  Mrs. Havens worked for the Manlius Publishing Co. and shared her husband's interest in square dancing.  Mr. Havens died on 11-29-1981, and Mrs. Havens died on 1-17-1997.  They had:  Earl M. Havens, who was born about 1941, and lives in Parkersburg, VA.

Edward J. Heffron and Margaret O'Brien Heffron lived at 408 S. Manlius St. by 1927, 108 E. Genesee St. by 1942, and at 308 Washington St. by 1960.  Mr. Heffron was born in Ireland about 1884, and came to America about 1913.  He was the sexton at the Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville for many years.  Mr. Heffron died on 12-5-1961.  Mrs. Heffron, was also born in Ireland, and the couple wed about 1915.  They came to Fayetteville about 1922.  Mrs. Heffron died on 12-7-1952.  They had:  Catherine M. Heffron, who marrieded Walter Belge, (see their entry), Anne Heffron, who was born about 1916, and a daughter who married Richard Manzi of Syracuse.

Simon J. Hertel and Emily Hobbs Hertel lived at 209 N. Park St. by 1927.  Mr. Hertel was born about 1869, and the couple wed about 1896.  He worked for the Stickley Furniture Co.  Mrs. Hertel was born in England about 1870, and died on 5-1-1942.  Mr. Hertel moved to Rome, NY, in April, 1943, to live with his sister, Margaret Hertel Corr.  He died there on 8-3-1945.  They had:  Inez E. Hertel, who was born about 1911, and died on 4-15-1923, of peritonitis.  (This surname is often spelled "Hertle" in various records.)

David D. Hickey and Anna Farrell Hickey lived at 410 E. Genesee St. by 1930.  Mr. Hickey was born in Watervale, NY, about 1875, and was a farmer in Pompey, NY, before moving to Fayetteville about 1924.  Mr. Hickey at one time conducted a coal business in Manlius and was later affiliated with John Mott, his brother-inlaw, in the coal and produce business in Fayetteville.  Mr. Hickey died on 11-24-1944.  Mrs. Hickey, a native of Syracuse, was born about 1874, and the couple did not marry until about 1917.  She was residing at 501 E. Genesee St. at her death on 5-7-1958.

LeBaron Hoag and Catherine Griffin Hoag lived at 142 N. Burdick St. by 1942, having lived earlier at 115 McKinley Ave. in Syracuse.  Mr. Hoag was born about 1865, and worked many years as a driver and salesman for the Haberle Brewing Co.  He lived his entire life in CNY, and died on 4-20-1945.  Mrs. Hoag was born about 1863, and the couple wed about 1890.  She died in 1950.  They had:  Clarence T. Hoag, who was born about 1901, worked as a clerk for an express company, and lived in Syracuse.

Edward M. Hodge and Viola Briggs Hodge lived on North Manlius St. by 1942.  Mr. Hodge was born on 8-12-1903, and was a salesman for the Trask Butter Co.  Mrs. Hodge was born on 11-30-1905.  Her widowed mother, Ella Briggs, lived with the couple on West Corning Ave. in Syracuse following their wedding about 1929.  Mrs. Briggs, who was born about 1860, moved to Fayetteville from Canton, NY, about 1936 and again lived with the family.  She died on 3-16-1946.  The Hodge's later moved to Young Rd. in Brewerton, NY.  Mrs. Hodge died while residing in Cincinnati, OH, in March, 1983, and Mr. Hodge died on 11-27-1996.  They had:  Markham E. Hodge, who graduated from Syracuse University in 1965, married Suz Anne Lucas on 6-18-1966, and later Regina Hodge, and is a CPA in Cincinnati.

Arthur Holden lived on James St. by 1942.  Mr. Holden was born in February, 1891, and worked as an electrician for the Precision Castings Co.  He was married to  Laura Benedict  Holden, who was born on 1-26-1894.  Mrs. Holden taught near Jamesville before their marriage in 1915.  They lived at 604 Orchard St. by 1927, and she died on 1-30-1936, at age 42.  Mr. Holden later wed Lena Belle Hilderbrand and lived at 104 Clinton St.  at his death on 5-30-1948.  He was 57.  Lena Holden was residing at 207 North St. at her death on 11-8-1973.  Arthur and Laura Holden had:  Morell Holden, who wed Helen Rubado, was a toolmaker for the Electric Auto-Lite Corp., lived at 412 Orchard St., and died in FL on 3-13-1984, George M. Holden, who served in the Army Air Force during WWII, worked at the Brown-Lipe-Chapin Co., and lived in Manlius, and Dr. Lawrence B. Holden, who attended medical school at the University of Illinois, wed a Miss Rotman, was a neurosurgeon, and lived in Peoria, IL.

Clark James Holden and Minnie May Slawson Holden lived on James St. by 1942.  Mr. Holden was born in April, 1869, and was a dairy farmer.  He and his family lived in Syracuse and Pompey before coming to Fayetteville about 1913.  Mrs. Holden was born in August,1867, and the couple wed in Mexico, NY, on 3-5-1888.  Mr. and Mrs. Holden moved to Chittenango about 1950, where she died on 10-10-1955,  and he died on 3-22-1959.  They had:  Frank S. Holden, who was born in June, 1989, and died on 12-25-1938, Arthur Holden, who was born in 1891, (see his entry above), Russell Holden, who was born about 1895, (see his entry below), and Elizabeth Holden, who was born in March, 1898.

Russell Dwight Holden and Cora Cunningham Holden lived in Fayetteville by 1942, and on James St. by 1948.  Mr. Holden was born In June, 1895, in Mattydale, NY, and came to Fayetteville about 1915.  The couple wed about 1918, and lived with his parent's, Clark and Minnie Holden, (see above).  Mr. Holden was a farmer and later worked ten years at the Precision Castings Co.  They moved to Chittenango about 1950, and Mr. Holden died on 10-7-1956.  They had:  Russell Holden, Jr., who was born about 1919, wed Bessie Teske, worked as the superintendent at Green Lakes State Park, and lived in Fayetteville, Belle Almeda Holden, who was born in July, 1921, wed John F. Hallinan, graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, retired in 1985 after 14 years as director of nursing at the Plaza Nursing Home, and died on 1-17-2000, Marion Holden, who was born on 11-3-1923, married William R. Teske on 6-10-1945, and lived in East Syracuse, Earl C. Holden, who was born in 1928, wed Elloween Smith, worked 17 years at Green Lakes, resided in Chittenango, and died on 7-10-1973.  (William and Bessie Teske were brother and sister.)

Albert Frances "Bert" Hopstein and L. Elizabeth Hopstein lived at 407 Salt Springs Rd. by 1942.  Mr. Hopstein was the comptroller for the Haberle-Congress Brewing Co.  The couple was very active in horse show circles.  They later moved to Oran, where Mr. Hopstein died on 3-7-1954.  Mrs. Hopstein died on 3-25-1962.  They had:  Burt R. Hopstein, who was born 9-2-1922, married Dorothy Goodfellow, lived at 410 Spring St., moved to La Habra, CA, and died on 1-20-2002, Willa Frances Hopstein, who graduated from Elmira College, worked as a teacher, married Stephen Howard Hackett on 6-28-1947, and lived in CA, Betty A. Hopstein, who wed Albert S. Rosenberger, about 1952, and lived in Germany, and Jean Hopstein, who attended Syracuse University, wed Francis Porter, and resided in Cazenovia.

George Clay Houseman and Jane Catharine "Jennie" Kain Houseman lived at 110 Mechanic St. by 1942, and on Highbridge St. by 1948.  Mr. Houseman was born 3-20-1914, and grew-up in Fayetteville.  (See the entry for his father, James Houseman.)  Mrs. Houseman was born on 6-27-1916, in Fayetteville, and the couple married on 5-29-1940.  Mr. Houseman was a group leader at the Precision Castings Co.   Mrs. Houseman worked at General Electric in Syracuse as a proofreader.  The family later lived in East Syracuse, NY, and were residing there when Mr. Houseman died on 11-19-1982.  Mrs. Houseman moved to Moravia, NY, in 1988, and died on 11-20-1992.  They had:  Sandra Houseman, who lived in Syracuse, Mary Ellen Houseman Walter, of Moravia, and James Houseman, who lived in Utica, NY.

James Delevan "Dell" Houseman and Eula Brown Houseman lived on Highbridge St. by 1942.  Mr. Houseman was born in Stockbridge, Madison County, NY, on 7-30-1873.  He came to Fayetteville about 1890, and delivered ice in Fayetteville and Manlius from 1905 to 1943.  Mr. Houseman had been married previously to Ellen Louise "Ella" Snook Houseman, who was born on 3-8-1872, in Stockbridge.  The couple wed on 8-14-1905, and she died on 1-10-1923.  About 1935, Mr. Houseman wed Ula Brown.  She was born in Bridgeport, CT, about 1887, and came to Fayetteville about 1930.  Mrs. Houseman was a teacher.  She is believed to have been married previously, and to have had a son, Montford Weed, who lived in Fairmount, NJ.  Ula Houseman died 3-30-1956.  Mr. Houseman died on 7-3-1961.  James and Ellen Snook Houseman had:  Irene Grace Houseman, who was born on 12-19-1905, wed Paul Raymond Dennington about 1924, and later wed Earle H. Howard, and died on 12-17-1991, Grace Adell Houseman, who was born on 8-8-1911, married Clifford Hozen Nellis on 4-19-1930, and died in January, 1977, while residing in Madison, OH, and George C. Houseman, (see the entry above).  Ellen Snook was also married previously.  With her husband, Fred Young, she had Flora Hannah Young, who was born on 5-28-1900.  The child was known as Flora Houseman, and as a young woman worked as a store clerk.  Miss Houseman married Harry W. Lavner in 1930, lived on Woodchuck Hill Rd. in Lyndon, worked for the Precision Castings Co., and had a son, Richard Lavner, who lived in Cazenovia.  Mrs. Lavner died on 11-23-1955.

Burton Howell and Florence Lillian Howell lived at 408 E. Genesee St. by 1942, having lived earlier on South St.  Mr. Howell was born about 1871, and worked for the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Howell was born about 1872.  She was a life long resident of the area, and died on 9-22-1950.  The couple married about 1896, and had:  Daniel D. Howell, who died on 11-21-1908, at age two, Margary (also known as Marjorie) Howell, who was born about 1910, married Willis Van Marter, worked at the Sweetheart Market, and was living in North Syracuse at her death on 11-26-1988, Ruth Howell Prentiss, who was born about 1897, and lived in Minneapolis, Thomas Howell, who was born in 1915, served in WWII, lived in East Syracuse, was a welder for the Pierce-Butler Co., and died on 7-4-1988, and Paul Howell, (see the next entry).

Paul D. "Pete" Howell and Joyce Chamberlain Howell lived at 104 North Park St. by 1942, and at 212 W. Genesee St. by 1948.  Mr. Howell was born about 1912, and served in the USMC during WWII.  He worked for the McIntyre Paper Co., and also owned Howell 's Restaurant and was club manager of the Oneida Elks Club.  The couple married about 1940, and moved to Oneida, NY, in 1973.  Mr. Howell died on 3-7-1995.  They had: F. Suzanne Howell Gardinier, who was born in December, 1941, and lived in Verona, NY.

Bessie Ogden Hoyle lived at 109 Academy St. by 1940.  Mrs. Hoyle was born about 1870, and was a native of Wilton, NY.  She was the widow of Alonzo T. Hoyle.  Mr. Hoyle was born about 1864, in PA, and the couple wed about 1891.  He was an Army veteran, who spent most of his final years in various government hospitals.  Mrs. Hoyle died on 4-20-1949, while living at 507 Spring St. with her daughter, Margaret Wallace.  They had:  Laura J. Hoyle Anderson, who was born about 1892, was a political worker in Syracuse, and moved to Moyland, PA, and Margaret Hoyle, who was born on 1-1-1896, wed Albert G. Wallace, was a manicurist in NYC, moved to Fayetteville about 1939 and lived at 507 Spring St., and then resided in Melrose Park, PA, at her death on 12-31-1976.

Harold H. Hughes and Mary "May" Fellows Hughes lived at 413 Clinton St. by 1927.  Mr. Hughes was born in Syracuse about 1876, and came to Fayetteville about 1900.  He was the general stores superintendent for the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Hughes was born about 1878, and the couple wed about 1900.  She was very active in the DAR.  Mr. Hughes died on 10-18-1954.  They had:  Frances Hughes, who was born about 1908, and wed Edmund J. Jennings, (see their entry).

Leon Ira Hughson and Emily Woyworth Hughson lived on N. Manlius St. by 1942.  Mr. Hughson was born in Tully, NY, in August, 1899.  He later lived in an apartment at 1116 E. Genesee St. in Syracuse, and by 1927 was living at 106 John St.  Mrs. Hughson was born in NYC about 1899, and was a descendant of members of the Polish aristocracy. She studied at the Parsons School of Fine and Applied Arts (now the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts), and worked five years as a costume designer.  Among Mrs. Hughson's clients were Sophie Tucker and the dancers from the Ziegfeld Follies.  She came to CNY in 1931, and worked in the field of advertising and commercial art.  The couple wed in 1932.  In 1941, Mrs. Hughson gave up her job, and, together with her husband, constructed the home they came to occupy in Fayetteville.  Mr. Hughson was then working at the Precision Castings Co., and was the foundry foreman at his death on 4-11-1954.  After his death, Mrs. Hughson returned to her art position with the E. W. Edwards store in Syracuse.  She died on 10-11-1960.

Edward Augustus Hunt, Jr., and Bertha S. "Birdie" Hunt lived on Woodchuck Hill Rd. by 1942, and later lived on the F-M Rd. and at 217 Highbridge St.  Mr. Wood was the manager of the Wood Glass Co.  He also maintained a stable, and was active in fox hunting circles.  By 1942, Harold Brown lived on the property and worked for the family as a stable man.  Mr. Hunt died in 1972, and Mrs. Hunt, a founder of the Limestone Creek Hunt Club, died on 2-13-2001, at age 94.  They had:  Edward A. Hunt, III, who married Nancy Ann Sims on 10-13-1956, and lived in Cazenovia.

Maxwell B. Hutchinson and Frances Kernan Hutchinson lived at 116 Elm St. by 1942, having lived earlier on Durston Ave. in Syracuse.  Mr. Hutchinson was born on 5-5-1898, and was a native of Milford, CT.  He was a salesman for the Hutchinson Co. at 259 W. Fayette St. in Syracuse, and later was the personnel manager for the Kane & Roach Co.  Mrs. Hutchinson, a native of Utica, NY, was born on 12-6-1906, and attended Rosemont College.  The couple wed about 1927.  Mr. Hutchinson died on 11-19-1955, and Mrs. Hutchinson died on 12-27-1982.  They had:  John Carleton Hutchinson, who was born in New Haven, CT, about 1928, graduated from Syracuse University's School of Music, wed Mary Tone about 1951, was a church organist and music teacher at various parochial schools, and resided in Camillus at his death on 1-10-1998, Peter K. Hutchinson, who lived in Binghamton, Michael Hutchinson, who lived in Fayetteville, Robert Hutchinson, who lived in Scottsdale, AZ, and Ann Hutchinson Williams, who was with General Electric, and later lived in Utica.

George Wallace Ingalls and Ellen Bentley Ingalls lived at 407 Elm St. by 1927, and in the fall of 1952 they moved to 104 Alwyn Rd. in DeWitt.  Mr. Ingalls was born about 1873, in Rockwood, NY, and was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.  He worked as an insurance agent for the Fidelity-Phoenix Fire Insurance Co. from 1913 until about 1951.  Mrs. Ingalls was born about 1881, and was a native of Baldwinsville, NY.  The couple probably married on 8-3-1903, and came to Fayetteville about 1919.  Mrs. Ingalls' father, Floyd F. Bentley, lived with the Ingalls family.  Mr. Bentley was a former resident of Baldwinsville, and for 58 years was the organist for the Presbyterian church there.  He established a record of playing 50 consecutive years without missing a Sunday service.  He was a member of the Baldwinsville Masonic lodge for 70 years.  Mr. Bentley remained active until his death on 1-1-1944, at age 92.  Mr. Ingalls was involved in several historical and genealogical groups, and died on 10-31-1958. Mrs. Ingalls was a graduate of the Syracuse University College of Fine Arts and the Eastman School of Music.  She died on 2-24-1961.  Their children:  Martha Ingalls, who was born about 1910, wed Charles Scott Estabrook, and lived in Fayetteville, and Helen Ingalls, who was born about 1905, wed Richard M. Hooker about 1924, and later, Ridmilo S. Troyanovich, and lived in Bethesda, MD.

Edwin B. Jackson and Sarah F. Jackson lived at 201 North Park St. by 1930, and at 118 South Mill St. by 1942.  Mr. Jackson was born about 1869, and Mrs. Jackson was born about 1876.  They were both born in NY, and they wed about 1890.  Mr. Jackson was a machinist and machine repairman for the Precision Castings Co.  Mrs. Jackson's father, Abram Jackson, who was born about 1840, lived with the family.  The Jacksons were among the few African-Americans to reside in Fayetteville during this period.

Russell Robertson Jarvis and Anne Fowler Jarvis lived on Highbridge St. by 1942, and at 405 Clinton St. by 1960. By 1972, they lived at 5148 Highbridge St.  Mr. Jarvis was born on 7-25-1899, and was a native of Boston.  He worked as a sub-contractor on various foreign and domestic construction projects.  Mrs. Jarvis was born about 1905, and was a 1927 graduate of Syracuse University's College of Fine Arts.  She was a noted portrait artist, and as a commercial artist created the "Dutch Boy and Girl Twins" for the Netherlands Dairy.  Mrs. Jarvis died on 9-11-1975.  Mr. Jarvis died on 5-10-1986.  It is believed that Mrs. Jarvis was previously wed and by her first husband had:  Anne Elizabeth "Betty" Jarvis, who was born about 1930, graduated from Cazenovia College in 1950, wed T. Richard Dunnigan, and lived in DeWitt at her death on 4-26-1983.  Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis had:  Robertson Fowler Jarvis, who was born about 1932, worked in the aircraft industry, and lived in Charlotte, NC, at his death on 5-9-1977, Suzanne Jarvis Coleman, who was born in 1937, and lived in Montviller, France, and Russell P. Jarvis, who was born in 1945, wed Marilee McCarty on 9-17-1966, was a career USAF officer, and lived in Lebanon, IL.

Edmund J. Jennings and Frances Hughes Jennings lived at 413 Clinton St. by 1937.  Mr. Jennings was born on 5-25-1903.  He worked for the American Oil Co. and later operated the El-Jay Supply Co.  Mrs. Jennings was born on 7-25-1908, and grew up in Fayetteville, (see the entry for her father, Harold H. Hughes).  She worked as an office assistant to Dr. A. F. Brand, and later was an administrative assistant in the physics department at Syracuse University.  Mrs. Jennings' aunt, Lois E. Joyce, lived with the couple until her death on 7-26-1972.  Mrs. Joyce was 87.  In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Jennings moved to the Wildwood Ridge Apts. at 5100 Highbridge St.  Mr. Jennings died on 8-22-1977, and Mrs. Jennings died on 11-12-1983.

Charles M. Kessler and Henrietta Hursh Kessler lived at 209 Franklin St. by 1942, having lived before on Green St.  Mr. Kessler was born in PA about 1866, and the couple wed about 1892.  He was a factory manager and also served as the mayor of Fayetteville.  Mrs. Kessler was born about 1871, in Newville, NY, and came to Fayetteville about 1901.  She died on 10-25-1957.  They had:  Donald H. Kessler, who was born about 1893, married a Miss Porter, and lived in Silver Springs, MD.  In 1909, while a teenager, Donald Kessler compiled a diary which told of life in Fayetteville.

Elbridge Hale Kinne lived in his mother's home on West Genesee Turnpike by 1942, when he wed Myra Catherine Kimbrell Kinne.  They lived at 303 Cornwall Dr. by 1953, and by 1960 were in Fayetteville.  Mr. Kinne was born 2-1-1913, in Syracuse.  He retired in 1978, after 35 years with the Lipe Rollway Bearing Co., where he was an industrial engineer and a purchasing agent.  Mrs. Kinne, who was born in Fort Mill, SC, on 9-15-1916, came to Fayetteville as a teenager, and married Mr. Kinne on her 26th birthday.  Mrs. Kinne originally came to the area with her mother, Myra Adelia Fravor Kimbrell, and they operated the Carolina Restaurant in Fayetteville for several years.  Mrs. Kinne also was a self-employed seamstress for 30 years.  Both Kinnes died in the Cortland Care Center, Mr. Kinne on 1-16-2002, and Mrs. Kinne on 6-19-2003.  Their children:  Elbridge "Elbe" Kinne, who lives in DeWitt, and Elizabeth Kinne Luke, who lives in DeRuyter, NY.

Marie Marjorie Hale Kinne lived on West Genesee Turnpike by 1942.  Mrs. Kinne was the widow of Elbridge Potter Kinne, a real estate agent.  Mr. Kinne was born in Syracuse on 11-1-1886, and died on 11-2-1922, at age 36.  Mrs. Kinne was born on 3-15-1889, in Syracuse, and moved back there in 1955.  She was residing with her daughter, Lucille, at 516 Greenwood Place at her death on 2-23-1963.  Their children:  Elbridge H. Kinne, (see above entry), Mariam Kinne, who wed George D. Ruby, and lived in Sun City, AZ, and Lucille E. Kinne, who was born about 1914, was a secretary at Lincoln National Bank, retired in 1968 as an office manager at Dick Typsetting, and died on 1-26-1999.

Carroll Duff Knapp and Harriet Collin Knapp lived at 419 Brooklea Dr. by 1942, having lived earlier in Albany, Buffalo, and at 206 Crawford Ave. in Syracuse.  Mr. Knapp was born in Fayetteville about 1884.  He was a partner with the Munroe, Evleth, and Knapp insurance agency, and was also a director of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association.  Mrs. Knapp was born on 2-18-1881, in Fayetteville.  She graduated from Smith College in 1903, and taught in the Fayetteville schools before the couple wed in 1909.  Mrs. Knapp was the head of the board of directors of the YWCA in Syracuse, and upon moving to Fayetteville became president of the local library board.  The couple lived at Mr. Knapp's boyhood home, Indian Oven Farm, on E. Genesee Turnpike at their deaths.  Mr. Knapp died on 3-24-1957, and Mrs. Knapp died on 12-18-1971, at age 90.  They had a daughter, Betsy Knapp, who was born in 1910, graduated from Smith College in 1932, was an official with the League of Women Voters, and the WPA and other federal agencies in Washington, DC, before returning to Fayetteville in 1952, became head of the Maxwell School's library at Syracuse University, and died on 3-4-1993, at her family home.  Mrs. Knapp's parents, Charles Collin and Sarah Gillett Collin, also lived in Fayetteville, (see their entry).

Glen Adelbert Lening and Ada Lowe Lening lived at 109 North St. by 1942.  They had:  Glen A. Lening, Jr., who was born about 1903, wed Ella Farrance in 1930, lived at 72 Lyndon Rd., was a superintendent at the McIntyre Paper Co., and later a machinist at the Easy Washer Co., and died in 1963. 



Gwendolen A. Lewis moved to Fayetteville in 1930, and stayed briefly with the Misses Emma B. Beard, and Adele P. Hall on Elm St. (see the Beard listing).  By 1942, she was living at 132 Genesee St.  Miss Lewis was born in Unadilla Forks, NY, on 8-13-1896.  She attended Hunter College and the Columbia University School of Library Science and became a librarian for the NYC library system.  Miss Lewis accepted the position as librarian for the Fayetteville Free Library and began work on 10-1-1930.  She held this appointment for 37 years, and retired to E. Orange, NJ.  Later, Miss Lewis lived in Labelle, FL, where she died on 5-26-1999, at age 102.

Morgan H. Lewis and Marion Dawley Lewis lived at 211Salt Springs St. by 1927, on the Fayetteville-Manlius Rd. by 1942, and later lived on Churchill Lane.  Mr. Lewis was born in Oran, NY, on 12-13-1888, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1914.  He owned the Ford automobile dealership, and later operated the farm that had been owned by Mrs. Lewis' father, Frank Dawley.  Mrs. Lewis was born on 4-2-1892, and the couple wed about 1913.  She died 7-5-1960.  Mr. Lewis was residing in Sandy Creek, NY, at his death on 2-3-1979, at age 90.  Their children:  Jane Lewis, who was born about 1915, married Frank Farrell, and lived in Fayetteville, (see the Farrell entry), Helen Lewis, who was born 11-24-1917, graduated from Syracuse University in 1940, was a librarian, married Milo W. Eames, and lived in Brunswick, ME, at her death on 1-9-2005, and Elizabeth Lewis, who was born about 1917, graduated from Cornell University in 1940, worked as a home economist and dietician, married Wilson S. Mitchell, Jr., lived in Union Springs, NY, and died on 4-22-2000.

Leon A. Lindenmayer lived at 107 Huntleigh Ave. by 1942.  Mr. Lindenmayer was a salesman for the Goodyear Tire Co.  He had:  Katheryn Lindenmayer, and Edward L. Lindenmayer, (see his listing).




Carl R. Linderoth and Martha Scholze Linderoth lived at 404 Highbridge St., arriving about 1941.  Mr. Linderoth was born 11-15-1903.  He was a native of Rockford, IL, and worked as office manager for the International Harvester Co., retiring in 1966 after 43 years of service to the company.  Mr. Linderoth served as chairman of the Fayetteville Zoning Board of Appeals.  He also took a great interest in the Gramlich Bird Sanctuary which was near his home, and spent much of his spare time maintaining it.  (See the entry for the Gramlich family.)  Mrs. Linderoth was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on 1-17-1907, and worked as a stenographer for 12 years, before marrying Mr. Linderoth, about 1937.  He died on 1-28-1988, and Mrs. Linderoth died at home on 1-2-2007, at age 99.  They had: John J. Linderoth, who lives in Fayetteville, and Robert C. Linderoth, who lives in East Syracuse.

Mathew E. Markle and Kathryn Shandorf Markle lived at 110 Franklin St. by 1942.  Mr. Markle was a clerk for a general insurance agency in Syracuse, and Mrs. Markle was a telephone operator.  They had:  Kathryn H. Markle, who was born about 1927, wed John R. Lindenmayer, moved to Baldwinsville, NY, worked for the Anoplate Corp., and was living in PA at her death on 7-7-2008.




Horace G. Mathews and Laura Dawley Mathews lived at 412 Salt Springs St. by 1927.  Mr. Mathews was born 10-31-1894, in MN, and came to Fayetteville about 1903.  He was a bookkeeper and then became an agent for the Traveler's Insurance Co.  Mr. Mathews also operated a Fayetteville dry cleaning and pressing business.  Mrs. Mathews was born about 1895, and the couple wed about 1917.  Mrs. Mathews was very active in many civic causes prior to her death on 9-19-1965.  Mr. Mathews died 2-2-1983.  They had:  Shirley Mathews, who was born about 1918, worked as an office clerk at the American Stores warehouse, married Arthur Stephens Egy, and lived in Manlius, and Glenace Mathews, who was born about 1921, wed Harry Lloyd Johnson on 7-15-1943, and lived in Spring Hill, FL.

Frank Matzelle and Mary Windhausen Matzelle lived at 105 Warren St. by 1942, having earlier lived and worked on a farm in Jamesville and Pompey, NY.  Mr. Matzelle was born in Germany, (Austria), on 1-23-1891, and was a laborer at the Tracy Coal Co.  Mrs. Matzelle was born about 1892, and the couple married about 1914.  She died on 6-17-1968, and Mr. Matzelle died on 10-29-1970.  They had:  Albert W. Matzelle, who was born in 1916, married Harriett Case, served in WWII, and lived in Perryville, and Frank H. Matzell, who was born about 1925, served in the USN in WWII, married Rayanne Matzell, moved to Chittenango about 1950, operated a body shop, and died on 6-28-2008.  Frank Matzelle, Sr., signed his surname as "Matzelle" on a WWI registration card, but his son, Frank, spelled his name as "Matzell."  Other variants also appear in government records and newspaper accounts.

Willard E. McHarg and Mina Davis McHarg lived at 512 S. Manlius St. by 1942, having lived earlier in Albany and NYC.  Mr. McHarg was born about 1868, and came to Fayetteville about 1932.  He was a banker.  A nephew of the couple, Arthur Edson Blanchard lived with the family until he was inducted into the US Army in March, 1942.  Mr. Blanchard was born on 10-27-1909, and worked at the Onondaga Hotel.  He later married and lived in Paramount, CA, at his death on 1-7-1985.  Mr. McHarg died on 1-6-1949.  Mrs. McHarg was born about 1868, and the couple wed about 1889. She died on 9-14-1949.  They had:  Mae Louise McHarg, who was born in Albany about 1890, graduated from Albany State College, was active in local civic affairs, and resided at 250 Salt Springs St. at her death on 3-29-1976.

John Edward Meagher lived at 602 Walnut St. by 1920.  Mr. Meagher was born in April, 1881, and came to Fayetteville about 1908.  He worked as a machinist for the Precision Castings Co., Stickley Furniture, and at the Franklin automobile factory.  Mr. Meagher was a widower for many years.  His wife, Louise Frain Meagher, whom he wed about 1901, died in a sanatorium on 3-22-1920.  Mr. Meagher died on 3-25-1963.  They had:  F. Margaret Meagher, who was born 3-10-1902, wed Arthur I. Rank on 11-17-1927, and lived in Erieville, NY, at her death on 10-29-2003, at age 101, Marie Meagher, who was born about 1904, was a practical nurse, wed Stanley Collins, moved to Minoa about 1955, and died on 4-26-1995, Eleanor Meagher, who was born about 1906, wed Howard R. Swinehart, and moved to Bridgeport, NY, about 1984, and died on 8-17-1995, a son who was born in December, 1914, and is thought to have died as a child, Mary Evelyn Meagher, who was born about 1916, wed Thomas Newcomb about 1937, moved to Bridgeport about 1955, and died on 1-26-1989, Catherine Florence Meagher, who died in infancy on 9-28-1918, and John Walter "Bud" Meagher, who was born in 1919, served in WWII, wed Alice Jennie Williams on 2-19-1944, and was killed in a bus-pedestrian accident in Chittenango on 6-26-1963, at the age of 44.

John L. Meagher and Frances Everson Meagher lived at 215 S. Manlius St. by 1927.  Mr. Meagher was born in Cazenovia about 1892, and served in World War I.  He came to Fayetteville about 1922.  Mr. Meagher graduated from CCBI, (the Central City Business Institute), and was in the insurance and real estate business with an office at 404 E. Genesee St.  Mrs. Meagher was born about 1889, and the couple wed about 1923.  She died on 11-22-1954.  Mr. Meagher wed Catherine Roache, who was a teacher, on 3-15-1958.  The couple moved to St. Petersburg, FL, where Mrs. Meagher died on 6-19-1981.  Mr. Meagher returned to Fayetteville and was residing with his daughter's family at his death on 5-29-1982, at age 90.  Mr. Meagher's sister, Gertrude Meagher, lived with the family.  Miss Meagher was a retired teacher, having taught in Lake Placid and other places for 35 years.  She died on 11-23-1968, at age 89.  John and Francis Meagher had:  Mary Ellen Meagher, who was born about 1924, married James J. Gambocarto, was an RN, lived earlier at 318 Brooklea Dr., and in the Redfield Apts. at her death on 4-8-1993.

Walter L. Meagher and Helen Gleason Meagher lived at 607 Clinton St. by 1927.  Mr. Meagher was born on 2-12-1890, and served in France during WWII.  He was born in a farmhouse on East Lake Road in Cazenovia, and was one of 12 children of John Meagher, a Civil War veteran.  All 12 children survived into adulthood, with many living into their 90s.  Walter Meagher worked as a postman, and also served as president of the local library board and as commander of the local American Legion Post.  He was on the local school board from 1946 to 1959, and was board president during the critical period when the Fayetteville and Manlius school districts were consolidated.  Mrs. Meagher was born about 1897, and was a native of Pompey.  She came to Fayetteville when she was a year old, and the couple wed on 9-17-1923.  Mrs. Meagher died on 4-23-1949.  Mr. Meagher played golf and drove until he was 95.  He died on 1-3-1992, at age 101.  They had:  Helen Ann Meagher Watson, who was born in 1926, attended Virginia Intermont College, and lived in DeWitt, and Walter Meagher, Jr., who graduated from LeMoyne College, and is an attorney in Syracuse.   

David Conviano Nash, Jr., lived at 406 Warren St. by 1927.  Mr. Nash was born on 7-2-1889, and was a carpenter for the Precision Castings Co.  His sister, Agnes Elizabeth Nash Arnold, and her children, moved from Syracuse to Fayetteville in the summer of 1939 to live with Mr. Nash.  Mrs. Arnold was born about 1908, and was believed to have been divorced from Claude Arnold, whom she married about 1924.  Mrs. Arnold died on 4-14-1958.  She had:  Claude Arnold, Jr., who was born in 1925, and Dorothy Arnold, who was born about 1926.

Theodore Roosevelt and Martha Ebeling Roosevelt lived at 504 Walnut St. by 1942, and later lived at 104 Park St.  Mr. Roosevelt was born 4-5-1908, and was a native of Canastota, NY.  He was a salesman for the Worcester Salt Co., and later for the Jay Toiletries Co.  Mr. Roosevelt was the president of the Syracuse Exchange Club and the Valley Men's Club.  He died 5-17-1983.  Mrs. Roosevelt was born about 1910 in Fayetteville, and was the daughter of  the Village's police chief, George Ebeling. She was a legal secretary for several law firms.  After Mr. Roosevelt's death, Mrs. Roosevelt wed Anthony J. Leo, and lived in Syracuse before moving to Warners, NY, in 1995.  She resided there at her death on 9-12-1998.

Frederick W. Schermerhorn and Jane Dunn Schermerhorn lived at 412 Spring St. by 1942, having lived earlier in Syracuse.  Mr. Schermerhorn was born in 1915.  He was a 1939 graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in business administration, and was an All-American lacrosse player.  He worked as the sales manager at Bresee Chevrolet--a Syracuse dealership owned by his father-in-law, Herbert A. Dunn, (see the Dunn entry).  Mrs. Schermerhorn was born on 5-3-1920, and the couple wed on 12-2-1939.  For 15 years, she owned and operated Ellen's of Fayetteville, a women's specialty shop.  Mrs. Schermerhorn was an accomplished horsewoman, and won many awards for her equestrian skills. Mrs. Schermerhorn wed Lansing Crouse, by 1948, and later wed Dean W. Harris.  Mr. Harris was born about 1922, and was a native of Richmondville, NY.  He was a popular local radio personality on WHEN until his death on 6-25-1972.  Mrs. Harris died on 10-28-1976, while residing at 10 Wheeler Ave.  She had:  Jeffrey L. Crouse, who lived in Syracuse, and in 1958 became the fourth generation of his family to operate Bresee Chevrolet, Lance F. Crouse, who lived in Rochester, and Melinda Harris.

Daniel S. Sebring  and Anne Leschak Sebring lived at 134 South St. by 1942, and 206 South St. by 1948. Mr. Sebring was born on 12-28-1909, and grew up in Fayetteville.  (See the entry for Willard Sebring.)  Mrs. Sebring was from Auburn, and was born 10-11-1909.  The couple married in Camillus on 5-27-1931.  Mr. Sebring worked as a mail carrier, and died on 11-19-1948, at age 39.  Mrs. Sebring later wed Devere Fowler, and lived in Austin, PA.  She died 6-14-1996, while living in Osceola, PA.  Mr. and Mrs. Sebring had:  Aurel Sebring, who was born about 1932, married Kenneth Robertson about 1951, and lived in Austin, Nancy Sebring, who also lived in PA, and Daniel Sebring. 

Willard R. Sebring and Anne Marjencey Sebring lived at 307 South St. by 1942.  Mr. Sebring was born 6-22-1906, and grew up on Spring St.  He served in the US Army during WWII, and was a foreman in the finishing department of the Stickley Furniture Co.  Mrs. Sebring was born on 12-15-1909, in Split Rock, NY, and the couple wed on 4-26-1935.  She was the head bookkeeper for the Flah's store in Syracuse, retiring in 1974.  Mr. Sebring died on 2-6-1972.  Mrs. Sebring later married her husband's brother-in-law, Alan Day.  He died in 1984, (see his entry), and Mrs. Sebring-Day died on 6-1-1993.

Willard S. Sebring and Laura Strotman Sebring lived at 409 Spring St. by 1910, and at 510 Spring St. by 1927.  Mr. Sebring was born in February, 1882.  He was a finisher at the Stickley factory.  Mrs. Sebring was born about 1886, and was a native of Syracuse.  The couple married about 1901, and came to Fayetteville a few years later.  Mr. Sebring died on 4-17-1946, and Mrs. Sebring moved to 114 S. Park St., to live with her daughter Myrtle Ostrander, by 1948. She was living at 600 Chapel St. at her death on 10-11-1966.  They had:  Marion G. Sebring, (also known as Mary Sebring), who was born about 1904, and wed Alan Day, (see their listing),  Willard R. Sebring, who was born in 1906, (see his listing above), Daniel S. Sebring, who was born on 12-28-1909, (see his entry above), Viola Margaret Sebring, who was born on 1-17-1911, and married John W. Gaugel, (see their listing), Harriet Florence Sebring, who was born on 2-2-1915, wed J. Henry Legault, and lived at 409 Lincoln Ave., (see their listing), and Myrtle C. "Nickey" Sebring, (who was sometimes known as Majrette C. Sebring), worked for the Gaylord Brothers Co. and the Syracuse Ornamental Co., married George C. Ostrander, resided at 612 Chapel St., and died on 10-28-1998.

Alva Carlye Spencer and Edith McLennan Spencer lived at 508 South Manlius St. by 1942.  Mr. Spencer was born on 10-22-1886, and was the son of the owner of the Spencer Clothing Co. in Syracuse, and ran the business after his father died.  Later Mr. Spencer worked for the Precision Castings Co., and retired about 1958.  Mrs. Spencer was born in Syracuse and came to Fayetteville about 1908.  She died on 11-21-1944, at the age of 55.  Mr. Spencer later wed Sarah Briggs.  He died on 3-16-1967.  They had:  Carl M. Spencer, who was born on 3-9-1914, served in the US Army, married Ruth Marie Henry, graduated from Syracuse University in 1946, was an executive with the Solvay Process Co., lived at 402 Churchill Lane, moved to Hilton Head, SC, about 1982, and died on 9-9-2000, Anne Spencer, who was born on 10-2-1916, wed William Anacious Clyne, earned a master's degree from Syracuse University, was a social worker, and lived in Manlius at her death on 3-23-2008, and Marjorie M. Spencer, who married Robert Cassatt, (see their listing).

Leopold Stickley and Louise Bowman Stickley lived at 308 Clinton St. by 1942.  Mr. Stickley owned and operated the Stickley Furniture Co.  Mrs. Stickley's mother, Marie Amelia Ahl Bowman, lived with the couple by 1942.  Mrs. Bowman was the widow of George M. Bowman.  She was born in Stillwater, MN, and died on 5-17-1955.




Albert Charles Teske and Mabel Grace Roache Teske lived on a 200 acre dairy farm on Green Lake Rd. Mr. Teske was born near Fayetteville, in April, 1882.  His parents were German immigrants who came separately to this country as teenagers, and settled near Green Lake in 1879.  Albert and Mabel Teske wed about 1911, and lived on and worked the land near the site that Mr. Teske's parents settled.   In addition to dairy farming, the family grew potatoes, peas, corn, grapes, berries, apples, peaches, and pears, which they sometimes sold at a stand near their farmhouse.   Mr. Teske died at home on 1-6-1956.  Mrs. Teske was born about 1892, and died on 7-21-1946, at age 54.  She was the mother of 15 children, 13 of whom survived infancy:  Anna Grace Teske, who was born about 1912, married Ralph Lucien Strong on 4-9-1943, worked 30 years at the Precision Castings Co., lived on Green Lake Rd., and died on 4-26-1993, Mildred Mae Teske, who was born about 1913, married Leroy Brown, worked for the McMillan Book Co., lived in East Syracuse, and died on 4-3-1988, Florence Teske, who married Oscar W. Welch, and died in November, 1962, Charles Albert Teske, who was born about 1915, wed Victoria Kline on 8-26-1950, lived on Green Lake Rd., and retired from the NYS Department of Transportation, Harry Arthur Teske, who was born about 1917, lived on Green Lake Rd., was a farmer and employee of Green Lake State Park, and died 1-20-1995, William R. Teske, who was born on 8-4-1920, wed Marion Holden, lived in Fremont, owned Teske TV Sales and Service, and died on 7-30-1999, Bessie M. Teske, who was born about 1920, married Russell Holden, and lived in Haines City, FL, at her death on 3-30-2008, (see the Russel Holden entry), Raymond "Sam" Teske, who was born about 1925, operated the family farm, and died in June 1977, Edward "Jack" Teske, who was born about 1926, wed Elizabeth Stanton, lived on Green Lake Rd., and also operated the home farm, and died on 9-29-1990, Carlton J. Teske, who was born in 1928, was a landscaper in Hackettstown, NJ, and resides now in Minoa, Robert J. Teske, who was born 7-19-1929, worked for a clothing store, and lives in Fayetteville, Richard Teske, who lived on Green Lake Rd., farmed and worked for the General Electric Co., and lives now in Charlotte, NC, and Mabel Jane Teske, who was born 8-16-1932, married Peter Paul Marko about 1952, and lives in Minoa.

Charles Thompson and Helena Hillenbrand Thompson lived at 120 South Mill St. by 1942.  Mrs. Thompson died on 11-17-1946, when she was murdered in her sleep by her son, Edward Rohr.  Mr. Rohr then shot and killed himself.  He was married to Lena Horton Rohr, of Cortland, and had served as a paratrooper in WWII.  He suffered severe injuries during the War and was hospitalized for months.  Since returning home Mr. Rohr had been working as a welder at the Precision-Castings Co.  Mr. and Mrs. Thompson had four other children:  Mrs. William Burdick, Fayettevllle; Mrs. Mary Seeley and Mrs. Louise Milcquek of Syracuse, and Mrs. Anna Neff of Cortland,





Benjamin A. Tracy and Helen Dawley Tracy lived at 307 S. Manlius St. by 1927.   Mr. Tracy was born on 2-29-1896, in Oran, NY, graduated from Syracuse University in 1917, and served in the USN during WWI.  He was a partner in B. H. Tracy & Sons Inc.--a family owned coal and lumber business.  Mrs. Tracy was born about 1897, and graduated from Syracuse University.  She was very active in the DAR, and other civic and religious causes, before her death on 9-26-1971.  Mr. Tracy died 11-15-1987, at age 91.

Clarence Horace Twichell and Laura Smith Twichell lived at 402 Elm St. by 1930, having lived before at 240 Roosevelt Ave., in Syracuse.  Mr. Twichell was born in Madison, ME, on 8-29-1894, the son of a Baptist minister.  He attended Colgate University and served in WWI before coming to CNY on 8-1-1921.  Mr. Twichell maintained an insurance agency in the Hills Building in Syracuse for many years.  He also served as president of the Fayetteville PTA and Crouse-Irving Hospital's board of trustees.  Mr. Twichell was very active in the Community Chest, YMCA, Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, the Salvation Army, and a host of other political, civic, and charitable causes.  His efforts in behalf of these groups resulted in his being chosen as Fayetteville's, "Citizen of the Year," in 1961.  Mr. Twichell died on 11-3-1963, following a heart attack, and a contemporary newspaper account reported that his funeral two days later was attended by hundreds of public officials and civic leaders.  Mrs. Twichell, a native of Manhassett, LI,  was born on 10-23-1893, and the couple married on Long Island on 6-18-1919.  She graduated from Albany State Teachers College, and died on 4-10-1993, at age 99.  The couple had four sons:  Lewis F. Twichell, who was born on 10-2-1920, served in the Army during WWII, graduated from Colgate in 1942, married Virginia Mae Wolfanger on 9-16-1950, was in the insurance business with his father, served on the Village's board of trustees for 26 years, and lived at 306 Colin Ave. at his death on 10-9-1996, George B. Twichell, who was born in 1927, graduated from Colgate in 1950, wed Page Altobellis on 6-3-1951, worked in the family insurance business, and lived at 207 Homewood Dr., Thomas Dodge Twichell, who wed Karen Priscilla Lamb on 4-4-1953, and lived in Minoa, NY, and Robert H. Twichell, who was born about 1932, wed Martha Brown, was injured in an auto accident in the summer of 1952 which left him paralyzed from the waist down, but went on to graduate from Colgate and Syracuse University's law school, and was an attorney in San Francisco at his death on 3-9-1969. 

Sherwood Newton Vessey and Helaine Vessey lived on the Manlius Rd. by 1942, having lived earlier at 850 Salt Springs Rd. in Syracuse.  Mr. Vessey was born on 6-30-1897, in Ohio, and was a sales engineer with the Syracuse Supply Co.  Mrs. Vessey was born in IL on 8-21-1904, and the couple wed about 1928. The family moved ro 11 Pebble Hill Rd., North, in DeWitt, by 1955.  They later moved to Vero Beach, FL, and lived there at Mr. Vessey's death on 9-16-1972, and Mrs. Vessey's death on 7-31-1980.  They had:  Robert A. Vessey, who was born about 1929, graduated from Lycoming College in 1957, wed a Miss Adair, and lived in Columbus, OH, and Sherwood Vessey, Jr., who was born on 8-22-1930, married (in November, 1966) and divorced Margaret Vessey (on 9-3-1976), and died on 4-20-1983, while residing in Vero Beach.
